Frequently Asked Questions

Can I just replace the outdoor unit on an older system to save money?

No. Replacing only the outdoor unit will sacrifice your comfort and lower the efficiency of the unit. This may also cause your system to fail sooner than normal and the manufacturer warranties may be voided. Buying a complete heat pump system ensures that your system will work efficiently in all areas and maximize your comfort while saving you money.

What is the average life-span of equipment?

Most systems have a lifetime of 12 years or less. As your equipment gets older, its efficiency can decrease dramatically. You may notice that it gets noisier and needs repairs more often. If your system is over five years old, you should have a heating and cooling contractor check your system for maintenance or replacement. Preventative maintenance can prolong the life of the equipment.

Should I have my ducts cleaned?

NO. Do not have your ductwork cleaned. The tools used to clean the duct work can compromise the strength and integrity of your duct work. Many customers have had to pay for costly repairs and replacements of their duct work as a result of a duct cleaning. The dust that remains after a cleaning is usually much worse than before the service. Many of the companies who advertise duct cleaning are looking to upsell you products and services, such as unnecessary deep coil cleanings and expensive specialty filters. Typically they are not HVAC certified and are improperly trained on how to complete the suggested services. It is far better to upgrade your filter to a pleated filter than allow strangers into your home who may cost you thousands of dollars in repairs.
