How Does My Air Conditioner Work?
Contrary to popular belief, air conditioners don’t actively cool air. The system uses refrigerant to absorb heat from the air and remove it from your home by transferring it outdoors. As the warm air moves through the lines and coils of the system the heat is released, leaving the air cooled when it finishes cycling through the system. A fortunate byproduct of the process is that it also helps to remove humidity from the air.
The Four Components of an AC System Include:
- Condenser: This is the large, metal unit which is installed outdoors. The condenser contains a heat exchanger that releases the heat the refrigerant has absorbed, allowing the vapor to cool and condense.
- Compressor: Located inside the condenser, the compressor circulates pressurized refrigerant. It concentrates the heat and increases the pressure of the refrigerant, forcing the higher-pressure fluids through the system.
- Evaporator: This is the coil that’s located indoors. It is designed to absorb the heat from the air inside your home.
- Expansion valve: This valve controls the amount of refrigerant that’s in the system.
Our HVAC technicians have the knowledge and expertise to perform air conditioning repairs on all makes and models. No matter what type of air conditioning service you need you can count on us for customer-focused solutions.
Air Conditioners & Energy Efficiency
The SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) rating expresses the cooling efficiency an air conditioner or heat pump. This number is calculated by dividing the cooling output for a typical season by the total amount of energy used. Systems with higher SEER ratings are capable of achieving greater energy-efficiency. However, it’s important to realize that the SEER rating represents a system’s maximum efficiency level.
If you’re looking to protect your system, our technicians offer AC maintenance services in Melbourne and the surrounding areas. Regularly scheduling annual preventative maintenance visits will help improve efficiency, reduce breakdowns, and allow you to enjoy a longer system life. Additionally, your air filter will need to be replaced every one to three months, depending on a variety of factors. These include the number of occupants and pets in the home, household practices, and whether anyone in the house has respiratory issues.
